Heading North.

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

In February we got the green light to start traveling up to our New home.

Our first major obstacle was the border crossing at Grobblers Bridge. The Limpopo river had risen very high, and authorities on both the South African side, and the Botswana side of the bridge had agreed to close the border at 4:00pm. The Covid 19 restrictions on travel also prevented us from going further without a valid work permit. We sent out an urgent prayer request, and also asked for some documents from AIM as proof of our plans to work in Tanzania.

After advising the chief of immigration to check that there was no water in the oil of the power generators when they re-open the border, he changed his attitude completely, and asked that we get any supporting documents before 4:00pm so that he could help us go through the border.

In Zambia we got pulled over for speeding. I was doing about 50km/h in a 40 zone. The officer looked at my mask and wanted to know what country it was from. I told him it's an Evangelism mask. He asked if I was a pastor, and I told him we were missionaries. He looked at me and said, "I just cannot bring myself to write out a fine; please go and sin no more". The Great North Road in Zambia is terrible. If anyone is planning a trip up that way, make sure you give yourself lots of time, and definitely don't drive at night.
